Activist Spotlight of the month: Joshua Buenviaje

Josh is an 18-year-old activist from the U.S. who just recently graduated from High Tech High, a project-based learning school in California. They have a strong passion for learning about progressive and alternative forms of education, and the work that they've done with YouthxYouth has only allowed them to grow more as an educational activist.

Josh began their journey at YouthxYouth in January of 2021 at the first Learning Festival as a participant. He fell in love with the community and goals at YouthxYouth, so he applied to be a host for the first round of Global Action Circles and was lucky enough to host the Curriculum GAC in 2021 alongside Eliza, Zineb, and Oli! He continued his work in holding space within the YouthxYouth community by hosting Cafes at the Learning Festivals in January 2022 and 2023 and the Relational Inclusive GAC in 2022 with Oda and Ila! Within the R&I GAC, they created a toolkit with activities for educators to make their classrooms more engaging and inclusive. Most recently they've started holding space for the Wellbeing Circle, YouthxYouth's newest program that's being offered, created by Ila and Adrija and co-facilitated by them along with Angshula and Josh (They highly recommend)!!

He is thrilled to begin his higher educational journey at Stanford University in the fall of 2023 and continue to learn about transformational learning experiences within education. When they're not working in educational activism, you can find them trying new boba shops, writing slam poetry, thrifting, playing the piano and spending time with friends!!
