About the program

The YxY Weavership is a 10-month capacity-building fellowship program for youth community organizers who are "weaving" local and global communities in service of education transformation, enabling them to contribute to the creation of learning ecosystems and life-affirming futures. The YxY Weavership has been created in partnership with the Weaving Lab, a globally-renowned community of practice for weavers, founded by some of the world's leading social entrepreneurs.

Why Weaving?

We weave social change with others because we know that we won’t get to the life-affirming world we seek by working on our own. We recognize that for transformation to take place, we need each other, and we need to recognize our interconnectedness with all of life as well as the interconnectedness of the issues we are dealing with. We weave to transform our education from a colonial education model to an education that has the power to liberate us all. We weave because we believe in our own agency and the agency of every young person to take ownership of their learning and to create ripples of change in their communities that will eventually become unstoppable waves. To create the world of our deepest longing, we need more and more people to embrace new ways of learning, being, and doing in the world and weave these new and ancient ways into the fabric of our new world.

The act of weaving is complex: it involves deep self-awareness, developing intergenerational and intercultural relationships, organizing diverse education stakeholders around a common vision and mobilizing people into action. It involves being and becoming the (eco)systems we wish to see. As a YxY Weaver, you will learn how to weave the self, relationships, communities, ecosystems and movements towards a world where all people and planet can thrive. Learn more about the skills you will learn on the Weaving Lab's website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to have an idea for improving my community? Or will I simply be involved in an idea to improve a community?

A: You will be learning a new set of skills/a lens that you can apply to any change you want to make- so you don’t need to have an idea right now. The fellowship will allow you time to sense what your communities need and where your gifts and passions can fit in. If you do have a project or idea, this program will act as a sort of guide or ‘mentorship’ in your professional and personal development and can help you to create regenerative change.

Q: What does “fellowship” really mean?

A: It is a ten month program with a mixture of online workshops, asynchronous learnings, curated resources, a buddy program, guest speakers and a practice period where you will either weave a “Glocal Hub” or within an organisation who practice weaving.

Q: What does weaving mean?

A: Weaving is the practice of interconnecting people, projects, and places in synergistic and purposeful ways.

A concrete example of weaving is our Glocal Hubs! YouthxYouth Glocal Hubs are our locally-rooted, globally-supported homes for youth-led transformation of education., They are facilitated by resident youth weavers, in partnership with allies and institutions, acceleratingto accelerate the process of young people influencing, designing, and creating systemic change. In order to create the “glocal” education transformation we seek, we need to deepen our weaving capacities and co-create thriving communities that enhance the wellbeing of self, society, and nature.

Q: What should I expect at the end of the 10 months?

A: To have a deeper understanding of what weaving is and the role of a weaver in the social change ecosystem. To understand why weaving is a useful lens for social change and education transformation.

A: Five hours a week for full participation!

Q: Does it cost money?

A: No, we fundraise on your behalf so the cost is free for youth weavers :)

Q: What are the skills I would learn through the time?
