The Power of Stories

This poem was collectively written with YxY activists at our first Community Call of the year, during which we explored the theme, The Power of Stories! Culminating out of insightful conversation, the poem centers learning, storytelling, and intergenerational collaboration.

I learned to be courageous 

I felt empowered with YouthxYouth 

I will make a change in a community 

‍

I learned that we are so beautifully connected to human and more than human life

I felt grief

I will spend more time in nature

‍

I learned about my relationship with all the beings on this earth

I felt touched when I imagined a better world together

I will give my all to make this world a better place 

‍

I learned the earth is a part of me

I felt connected to it

I will tell my part of the earth's story

‍

I learned there are differences in the world

I felt there is a new world waiting for me.

I will move ahead collectively & proactively.

I learned some things I can do to help the environment

I felt minuscule yet vital

I will take action.

I learned that being with people all over the world is powerful

I felt full of love

I will keep growing my storytelling community

‍

I learned that I’m an important facet in the world 

I felt gravitated to the thought that I ain’t alone 

I will spend my time connecting to people, I feel stronger

I learnt the hidden power in storytelling

I felt a deep connection with the earth

I will like to write a story that harmonizes me with the earth.

I learned the importance of the stories we tell ourselves

I felt renewed 

I will work to create and share new stories based in inclusivity and togetherness

I learned I'm not alone

I felt there still are safe spaces 

I will try to make people who feel alone feel that they belong!
