Happy July 2024, precious YouthxYouth community! This month, for our activist spotlight, we are spotlighting Temitope Obasola (she/her). Temitope is a Nigerian Youth Activist who is a graduate from our 2022 Weavership cohort, a host of our Funding and Fundraising for Education 2023 Global Action Circle, a host of our Kiwi 2023 Learning Festival Cafe, and a weaver of our Lagos Glocal Hub.

Temitope Obasola is a Scientist committed to exploring methodologies for providing innovative and sustainable solutions to real world problems. She is a Civic leader working on creating impact through advocacy and community building to lead transformative change in Education and Healthcare. As a Child Development Enthusiast, she believes that Education is one of the most effective ways to reach out to children.

We asked Temitope a few questions to hear about how she understands education transformation and about her work within these spaces. Here's what she had to say:

‍YouthxYouth: "What does education transformation mean to you?"

Temitope:

"I would say that Education Transformation is the creating of intergenerational learning spaces that will serve the planet and everyone (irrespective of social class, race and heritage). This transformation happens through both formal and informal learning methods by exploring how to reimagine learning models that are fit for our communities and thriving futures. Through intergenerational collaboration, education transformation will happen by making sense of everyone's unique past and present learning experiences to build the future that we imagine for the world of Education."

‍YouthxYouth: "If you could describe the world of your deepest longing using 3 words, what would it be?"

Temitope:

"Innovative, Liberating and Transforming."

‍YouthxYouth: "What inspires you in your work?"

Temitope:

"The goal to see children thrive in their learning spaces without losing their originality inspires me in the work that I do and the ‘Eureka’ moments we often have in our classroom."

YouthxYouth: "What are you currently working on?"

Temitope:

"I currently work as a Basic Education Teacher for STEM Subjects in my local community in Olambe–Ogun State, Nigeria where I help pupils from the ages of 8-14 years old develop problem solving and logical skills while helping them build social skills to thrive without losing their childhood essence. I tell stories from my daily experiences as a teacher to help inspire effective classroom practices that will improve learning outcomes in children.

As a Data and Artificial Intelligence Scientist, I am currently exploring knowledge areas to innovative approaches that will enable me to shape and influence policies across all sectors for the Digital Learning Future of Children while crafting effective classroom practices that will inspire and encourage children to learn."

YouthxYouth: "If you could offer one piece of advice to all youth activists, what would it be?"

Temitope:

"A little change here, a little change there; is what makes the great transformation that we would want to see happen in our world. The unique contribution of each and every youth activist towards transformation is what brings about diversity and makes beautiful the work we do; which is sometimes influenced by our social heritage. I want to implore youth activists not to lose their originality while working towards the change they want to see in the ‘glocal’ world. The world NEEDS your Prototype."

Be sure to keep up with Temitope and her incredible work through following her on LinkedIn, Instagram, and X.
